Who should I inform if hospital staff are incompitent about their job, or risking patients health by ignorance?
I have an uncle who is diabetic and in the hospital for medical reasons. His equilibrium is not functioning properly, so he is incredibly out of balance to the point that he cant even open his eyes, even when lying down and being still. If he does he gets so sea sick he cant stop vomiting. While he was in the hospital the nurses kept checking his blood sugar level. However, when his blood sugar level began to rise out of normal levels they took no actions to administer his insulin. Later when he became more aware of his surroundings, he asked why there were not administering his insulin. They simply replied that the doctor had not given them the ok to do so. When my uncle asked the doctor of this, the doctor apologized and gave them the ok to administer the insulin. Now I perfectly understand why they need the ok to administer insulin, but when his blood sugar level raised beyond normal levels they should have asked the doctor if he needed insulin. Isn't that there job, to Monitor patients and make sure they are being treated properly? So, my question is this, whom should I inform about this? Because even though the problem is fixed now, and they are taking care of his insulin and diabetes properly, I don't want this to happen again to someone else.
